Thank you to all of you who contributed to a lively discussion of Patricia Highsmith's book The Talented Mr. Ripley.
I always enjoy hearing how others react to and interpret a book or author's style. Tonight was no exception.
Highsmith's ability to put us, the reader, inside the head of a sociopathic murderer not only was chilling but a new experience with the genre of psychological thriller. She definitely was a trailblazer. As we learned more about the author, it became even more fascinating. As playwright Phyllis Nay says she "tackled messy questions of identity, sexuality, displacement --the themes of great novels"
If anyone reads any of the subsequent Mr. Ripley novels, please post your thoughts here for all of us to learn from.
